    Question Achy shoulders and neck

So I bought myself a giant tablecloth and hung it at 30 degrees... I tried sleeping in it but my shoulders and neck didn't like it at all. Granted, floating on dense epsom salt was extremely painful in my neck for me and that is supposed to be a nice neutral relaxing position. Any advice?

Did you use a pillow for your head/neck?

There's more to a good hang than just 30 degrees, mainly the amount of sag affects comfort as well as angle you lay in the hammock. Can you post a pic of it?

I get problems with my neck and shoulders when the fabric I'm using for the hammock is too stretchy. But I don't know what the Tablecloth fabric is like. Maybe get an adjustable ridgeline and experiment with different hang angles and hammock sag.

I have an issue with my neck/shoulders when:
    1) I am using a short hammock (less than 10 feet and I prefer 11 feet)
    2) Hang/sag is not correct (I now use an adjustable ridge line so I can dial it in better)
    3) When I am not laying diagonal enough

If you have not already done so you might want to check out The Ultimate Hang and Shug's Video's on You Tube. Both will give you valuable information to help get comfortable.

I'm broad shouldered and i put a 1"×36" oak dowel on the head end of my hammock. This has totally changed my hang for the better. No more shoulder squeeze and side sleeping is alot better. There are 3 of us who hang and we all use the spreader bar. It's like having a whole new hammock. Hope this help's and happy hanging.

Do you just wedge the dowel up in the fabric above you? Do you have any pics of this? Does the fabric ever show signs of stress from this? I am very curious about this

me too. do you pad the ends of the dowel?? I have thought about this with some narrower hammocks and even went as far as getting some pvc caps but never did pursue it because of fear of damaging a hammock.

sure would like to hear more on this.

Im guessing he means that he put the dowel through the sewn channel of what used to be a gathered-end hammock ... waiting to see...

that makes sense. I wonder if the spreader bars from the RR I don't use would work?? makes a good case for a wood staff in place of a trekking pole for some.
