Is an 11' hammock too big for my wife?

She's 5'1", thinking of getting our 1st hammock to try it out, looking at an 11 footer so I can lay in it too, but she'd end up using it full time. Is there a max length? Any info I can find is concerning minimum lengths for tall / heavy people

I don't think extra length will present a problem for her in terms of comfort. The only problem will be that she'll have to get the suspension higher up the tree trunks (perhaps out of her reach). Good luck!

I am 5' 2" and love my 11 footer so I agree, I don't think being too long is an issue at all.

Get the 11'. The suspension height difference wouldn't be all that much. After a while, if the 11' actually seems like overkill for her (and I don't think it will), keep it for yourself and get her a 10'!

Why would a longer hammock require you to put your suspension higher in the tree? I thought that a higher suspension attachment point was a by product of having trees farther apart?

In fact having a longer hammock ( and longer ridge line) means having a shorter distance between the same 2 trees, so your suspension attatchment at the tree will be a few inches lower. Not much, but some.

P,C & C, I think you'll both be fine in the 11'. How tall are you?

Pretty sure having a longer hammock won't move the trees any closer! Yes, the hammock is closer to each tree, and that's the "problem."

To get that 30 degree, pretty sure you'll need to add a bit more slack and that will mean placing the suspension a bit higher to keep the hammock the appropriate distance from the ground.

Another vote for the 11 footer. I'm 5'5" and love mine. Tree distance & suspension height can be a little more of a challenge, but not too terrible.
