Question Using a second tarp to close off one end?

Has anyone ever used a second tarp to create a door on the windward end of your setup?

I have a ProFly XL, a DIY Hex Fly, and a poncho tarp and was thinking that I could hand the Profly and then use one of the other to close off the other end. I thought I could make a triangle out of the poncho or use three tie-out of the hex. The idea is just to cut down on the wind; since we'll be in the mountains the down-slope thermals at night can get pretty bad and a bit unpredictable. If I could close three sides that would give me 180° to play with as opposed to needing to be perpendicular to the thermals and if you don't guess which way they'll come perfectly, you'll have a wicked draft all night.

I'm going to try a few set ups in the backyard but wanted to know if anyone has done this yet and what the results were.

Less weight and made to do it would be a set of Grizz Beaks. Check them out at 2QZQ's website.

I did it with one of the cheap Walmart blue tarps but I was not carrying it. Got caught in Mi in 30F temps with a north wind kicking up. The only way I could hang was with the opening facing N-S. Got a Walmart 5x7, cut it as needed and used close pins to hold it together on the north side. It was not pretty nor light weight but it stopped the wind.

I believe Grizz said that.he used a poncho on the end and that gave him the idea for the Grizz Beak. Your poncho should work pretty well. Grizzbeak is just a bit bigger but the poncho is already in your pack.

A google search for "Grizz Beaks poncho" pulled up what I needed. I wasn't finding much searching for poncho tarp doors. Thanks guys!

This thread has got me thinking of how to add on to an asym tarp for windy conditions or just additional coverage when needed.......hmmm.
