Thanks for all the great info! I'm not set on the JMT per se and I don't mind hiking longer, but it would be great if the entire trail was included in any longer hike...

Thanks for all the great info! I'm not set on the JMT per se and I don't mind hiking longer, but it would be great if the entire trail was included in any longer hike...
Do you know if there...
Hey guys,
on a rather short notice a friend and I are planning on hiking the John Muir Trail with our hammocks. Sadly, our window would be this August and the permits are all gone already. I have...
This was the January hang. Heavy rain all day, sadly stopping when I was just about to go to sleep. We had slight frost during the night.
...
I use the HG Phoenix with my XLC. Once it is properly set up, I don't need to fiddle with it at all. In colder or more windy areas I use an UQP. I have no cold spots and sleep warm and comfortable.
Get a Warbonnet, Dreamhammock, Hemmeck, Bone Fire and Amok/Bridge. That way you have all the different gimmicks available (like the shelf in the Warbonnet BB) and can chose for each occasion.
Check out this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hLupiOygs0s
This is basically what we are talking about. Instead of attaching flyz to the tarp, you can put a Fleaz on the continuous loop and...
I have noticed 2 things. If my suspension is too tight, I end up with more shoulder squeeze and the underquilt adds a little shoulder squeeze when tight against the hammock. I can reduce it by lying...
I'm not sure I understand. Why not use one continuous loop for the Dutch hook on one end and attach the wasp to a continuous loop on the other. Then you don't need prussiks or soft shackles... that's...
I hope you do :) post a little trip report. I hope it goes well!
Such a cute set up! It looks awesome!
I would suggest the Mamajamba too! It has worked great for me. If you want something cheaper in excellent quality and weight doesn't matter, you could take a look at DD hammocks. They also have an...
Number 4 done!

It was pretty warm, low 40s, but pretty windy. Thanks to my UQP I could still set up in porch mode...
I use a CRL because I like the easy adjustability compared to using two separate lines...
Awesome report! Thanks for the write up!
+1 on Dutch hammocks
Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on that next year!
I am pretty horizontal in my gathered end hammocks. Not 100% though. How do you know that you need to be 100% straight if you have never spent the night? I couldn't sleep on my back in a bed, yet in...
I have tried it a couple of nights now and it works great! I don't see a lot of pressure on the bug net and I think it would take a couple of years to wear through... (with only hanging a couple of...
...but appreciated  I like seeing the different sites and set ups...
You could just use a larks head around your whipping or on your continuous loop... so you don't need the extra carabieners. I still carry two, they can always come in handy.
Same here, 3 for 3 done.
I tried to find a spot as awesome but with winter coming, darkness caught up with us too quickly and we didn't make it to the creek. It was raining all evening and I had...
I think the Dutch hammocks are excellent especially for starters. And they are super comfortable for me. If you can attend a group hang near you, you might be able to try some other hammocks. But the...
If money is not an issue, consider a cuben fiber tarp. It'll save quite a bit of weight over the superfly. Also for suspensions, I use a lot of dutchware on my tarp, cuz it makes set up so easy and...
It's a personal preference. Under may give some extra support, but you have a risk of wear on the tarp. I think post ppl on here go over. I usually go over unless there is a storm rolling in...
Thanks for these instructions!
I think you can make your idea work. With enough tries and little changes, you could be able to get everything just right. However, I don't think it.would be an improvement compared the conventional...
I don't have any experience with that hammock. At least it is longer than the eno. It appears to have a channel at the end so you could switch out the suspension. However, if you could return it, you...
That looks great! Really nice weather too! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And glad you managed to get some hanging done:cool:
Wow! That looks great! I wanted to build some triangle thingies from rope this weekend as replacement for the ridgeline quilt hooks, but I think I may try to include this system. Any idea whether or...
If you want to save weight, consider a cuben fiber tarp. The superfly weighs 19 oz, the HG cuben fiber with doors only weighs 6.5 oz. Also, I have read that some ppl prefer a longer hammock, so if...
The bug net also offers a little extra warmth. And you need it for the shelf. If I really don't want a bug net, I will take my Dutch Hexon 1.0 for weight savings.
+1 on the face mask.
Oh, do you have doors? Because they help a lot in bad conditions without needing a larger tarp...
How are you suspending your tarp now? I use 1.75mm Dyneema and some dutchware. They hold up great in heavy winds. Also the side pull outs help break the wind for me. I'm not familiar with the...
I use the ridgeline quilt hooks, but they don't work that well on the netting and I am worried about abrasion. I just got some more dyneema, so this weekend I will make some rope triangle thingies....
On the left side it's on the same hight as the zipper. On the side of the shelf it is a little lower, I'd say half way down the shelf.
The tie outs don't interfere in any way. The one on the bug net is well over the quilt. And on the other side, I put the quilt under the shelf (or between shelf and hammock), so again the tie out is...
I can just speak from my experience, but for me it usually takes some effort to feel the suspension through the hammock. It sounds like your suspension is a little tight. I have noticed the hammock...
I'm in, September and October done. I barely made it for October... But the 31st still counts  (does it count for November too, since I woke up in November???)
This is September,...

If you are looking for a quick alternative to an eno hammock in the same price range, check out dutchwaregear.com. The 11ft. netless hammock is a good alternative to an eno that enjoys a lot more...
What they said. Just a larkshead through the end channel... or a larkshead under the whipping. Either way works fine.
The plug is just above the drain. You just have to hope that it all goes down the drain quickly enough :scared:
What about an asymmetric lay? Maybe convert your tarp to a Hammock that will hold water. You can still use your quilts for insulation
I have a WBBB XLC and I am very happy with it. The lay is really comfortable, there is a lot of room under the bug net and the shelf is super handy. If I look at the Clark, it looks to me like it is...
If you are using your suspension to go through the loop, I would suggest amsteel. You can build some whoopie slings and attach those to your tree straps. The fixed eye loop you can feed through the...
+1 to the Dutch hammocks. You could go with a single layer of Hexon 2.4. Also, the Enos are a little on the short side, which is a problem for some ppl.

I know, the set up in the video is pretty cool. But I don't know how tall he is and how tall you are. His hammock doesn't look like an 11'. If its windy, you will have to pitch a lot lower or get a...
Smart! thanks for the info. I'm just curious whether they will call a hammock body without suspension fabric or hammock
