I have a Hennessey hammock with an Asym tarp and original suspension.
Question: Would you buy a larger tarp with door option or buy the Dutchware suspension with Whoopie slings and continuous ridgeline?

Tarp. Without doubt.

Tarp first. I have a couple of HH and have found many different ways I can do the suspension but the small tarp only gives limited coverage. While I have never gotten wet with the stock tarp it is much nice to have a porch to set under and have to work so hard on site selection to stay dry.

That's what I was thinking also. I was thinking of the Hennessey Monsoon or Typhoon. Any other recommendations under $125
Are you hiking? If so, look for something by one of the cottage vendors that will lighten your load. Not sure the Hennessy product will be all that light.
I base camp and do day hikes so weight was a non issue for me. I went with a Kelty Noah 12x12 which I can configure with "doors" to keep myself covered.

I'd definitely skip the Monsoon; it's got a 10' ft ridgeline which means it's only good for hammocks 10 ft. or less (you might want to try a $35 11 ft. Dutch hammock in the future). The Typhoon has a 10' 8" ridgeline, but it weighs 26 ounces. For $130 you can get the most popular 4-season silnylon tarp out there, the Superfly. You won't regret it.

I have the HH Hex tarp and I just today ordered a Warbonnet Superfly in order to get "doors" (and also drop 5 ounces of weight ). I had snow blow in from the end after the wind shifted during my last outing. The WB Superfly is a tad more than $125 mentioned, but not much.
YMMV

I just made the switch from the HH Typhoon to a Warbonnet Super fly.
Now I'm not going to nock the typhoon as a bad tarp cause it does just what Hennessey says it will do and that is keep you dry in a typhoon rain storm. been there done that with it and not a drop got inside.
I had the 30D and it was not bad to carry and my new super fly is about the same weight.
I just wanted more room under and a bigger porch when doing that also.
My thought is the super fly is the best bang for your buck.

tarp. thats the thing that I got fed up with first when I spent a couple rainy days living out of my hammock. I did a DIY job, but you should be able find something to suit.
This is my HH explorer ultralite with a superfly (apologies for iPhone pics), you'll see there is a ton of coverage.
All the gear and no idea.....
