This weekend with the Palmetto State Hangers, I got the opportunity to try out the new TATO Gear Hammock Stand.

Unlike the previous iterations, this is NOT just a DIY-ready kit but a full ready to set up stand for your hammock gear. I'm ready for the Kickstarter to launch so I can get me one of these bad boys. It blows away ANYTHING else out there on the market in my opinion.
Here's the thing: It's a prototype, but it's still amazing. I'm told that the final product won't be the raw metal, but will come fully anodized in black. THE ENTIRE THING weighs less than 20 pounds (half the weight of the other full stand kit of this type on the market), is SO much easier to set up since it's basically only three pieces. The ridge pole and legs of the tripods all break down to make a 3'ish (I didn't measure) package that's all held together with shock cord running through it - similar to the poles some of us use for our pole mods on our tarps. It's also projected to come in significantly cheaper than the other stand of this type on the market, and I've heard through the grapevine that it'll be available not only from tatogear.com, but also from dutchwaregear.com after the Kickstarter has run its course.
"But Gresh," you may ask, "what's the weight rating on this thing? Surely it can't hold much more than 175 pounds or so."
Nay nay, I say to you. I'm a big 350 pound man and was rocking my winter gear in this picture, and the ridge pole DID NOT FLEX AT ALL. The weight rating is 350 lbs, but the functional weight rating is most likely closer to 500 lbs.
Internet friends, I can't tell you how stoked I am to get one of these when the Kickstarter launches (and I'll let you know when that is). I'm so in love with this stand.
