I have slept many nights on a cot in the field. I need insulation underneath just like a hammock. Guys that think they don't always have a loooong night.

I too have had to sleep on a cot and that is when I use a thin CCF pad under me. Otherwise it is like being in a hammock without any insulation under me. I can also say that give me a hammock with an UQ any day. Nothing beats that downy softness of a good UQ.

"The older I get, the more I appreciate my rural childhood. I spent a lot of time outdoors, unsupervised, which is a blessing." Barbara Kingsolver
One night on a cot in deer camp was all it took before going full time to the hammock. By morning I had my pack, clothes, and everyone's jackets stuffed between the camper floor and me.
The rest of them have even given up taking bets, as to when I'll drag myself back in the camper for warmth and shelter.

I camp out often on my hunting property in a construction trailer that has cots in it. Under mid 40 degrees I absolutely need something more under me than just sleeping bag. It's just a lot different because wind isn't blowing the air past pulling heat away even faster.
I've used cots before, but I usually got cold and needed a thick blanket underneath me.
