    List of items you need

    Hello everyone
I am new to hammock camping but tent camped for years. So I tried hammock camping all summer and watched shug and the Marine videos on YouTube.
Does anyone have a list of all what you should carry for summer adventure and winter adventure when you go hammock camping.

    Thanks for info

    List of items you need

Togwote, gitchu a big ole pack
Add insulation either pad, underquilt&topquilt or all three
    Hammock
    Bugnet optional
    Tarp
    Suspension for hammock, tarp
    Guy lines on tarp
    Stakes optional
    Extra socks
At least one set of dry clothes for sleeping
    Goofy boonie hat required
    Cook kit with Coffee mug
    Fuel and stove for Coffee
    Vittles victuals chow snacks
    Tooth brush and floss
Toilet paper in a waterproof bag
    Hand trowel
Map & compass should be waterproof
Phone with good trail navigation app
Basic medical kit with band aids, nail clipper, medicated salve to keep knife cuts, and forest punctures and blisters from getting infected
    Knife
Candy bars and leftover Halloween candy
    Salt and spices
Trash bags for packing out all trash
    Spoon, spork, knife, fork
    Bandana for camp sanitation
    Various stuff sacks optional
    Lightweight camp stool optional
Fire making kit including two Bic lighters
    Hiking staff-cane-walking stick
Gloves for warmth, hand protection when cooking or otherwise playing with campfire
    Flash lights
    Rain coat, poncho, rain pants
    Camp shoes
Toss in some optional fun stuff, maybe a drone
Extra batteries of all kinds and extra phone battery pack
Coffee and either water and or water filter and Knowing where there are good water sources along trail and or at campsites
    Knock knock joke book
Any medications or whiskey that you may need
Extra rope for lashing gear that won’t fit in to outside of pack, for fidgeting with knots or tie up the bear

By now your pack will not hold all this junk and you may be forced to get a Red-headed Lady Sherpa Guide to carry all your gear

I mainly guess at my gear list and sometimes forget important items
Shortly an Old Pro will give you a link to pack list spreadsheets. And this is good to help include all needed gear

Good luck and have fun out there
It’s always best to camp with a friend or small group of friends—for safety, fun, and if someone forgets something—maybe you or your friends will share needed gear

Almost identical to tent camping except substitute tent, sleeping bag and ground mat with hammock, suspension, topquilt + underquilt, and tarp.

I'm one of those crazy UL nut jobs, but here is my typical list for a late spring overnighter.

And here is a list for typical winter.

These haven't been updated in quite some time so there might be some omissions or some gear changes.

Cmoulder, with all due rspect your late spring overnighter list has no shelter. There is a significant price on that gear list.

My personal philosophy is have groups at the ready.

Shelter. hammock/bug net, suspension, Tarp, Lines, and Stakes.- In one bag. Wet tarp can go outside the pack later. My stake roll has extra zing it, stakes, and includes a plastic driving hammer.

Please keep this focus on your hammock gear. If not this will get moved into the Donating member section which will do the OP no good.

    Thank you.

There's a HG hex hammock tarp in the Spring list. It is the winter list that had no tarp, now added... HG Palace.

Here I wrote this longish philosophy about learning by error and making your own list along the way. Then I reread that you were an experienced camper so Delete and you were spared. Just take all your camping experience and substitute a hammock for a tent. Instead of looking for flat ground, look for trees the right distance apart for the size of your hammock - and check that there are no potential branches (or snow load in the winter) that will come crashing down on you. If you've always used a rainfly instead of a tarp, you just have to set the tarp up in the wind once to understand the benefit of snake skins and attention to wind direction - and the benefit of tarps with doors.

Understand that on the ground, you loose heat by conduction with the ground and your sleeping pad prevents that. In a Hammock you loose heat by convection - air currents under/around the hammock. So you need something under you - a pad, an underquilt, using and underquilt protector, etc.

All these topics have different schools of thought. Some things you just have to try - see how it works for you.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Get a Kuksa (finnish wooden drinking cup) This way you won't burn your lips when drinking your piping hot cocoa while you have your breeaaakefast from your hammock! Props to Shug...

I agree with Cmoulder. Only thing that changed for me when switching was
the actual sleeping system and knowledge about different knots and angles for
    hanging hammock.
