Guessing that this is a long shot - but worth posting up to see what type of responses I get.
I am a scoutmaster for my daughter's Scout BSA troop (T2019, Fairport NY).
As the scouts see me hang my hammock for most campouts, a growing number of our scouts have been borrowing hammock gear to hang at our campouts.
During our week long summer camp excursion in the Adirondacks, we had 12 scouts in hammocks.
Unfortunately, my collection of underquilts isn't vast enough to ensure everyone is insulated for some of the cooler weather we get here for our fall campouts.
I thought that I would post two fold:
1.) Some of the scouts are starting to look at getting their own gear - so I am keeping my eyes open for gear that might fit their needs/budgets
2.) Looking to see what I might find to get underquilts for the rest of my hammock systems - expanding my loanable gear
(I am currently sitting at 8 underquilts vs 12 hammocks)
Anyone have a quilt just sitting in a closet that could find a bit more love with a scout getting into hammocking?
To help with context:
- While there are a few of us that will hammock year round (daughter and myself do snow camp in our hammocks), most troop campouts are above freezing (even overnight temps - as I have less adult support for campouts once temps fall below that).
- Scouts are shorter, so a 3/4 lenght quilt has great coverage
- 85% of campouts are "car camping" (< 1/4 mile from car to location) - so weight isn't a huge consideration
- Especially for the loanable gear - function is more important than appearance (repaired holes, etc would be fine)
Thanks in advance!
