    Clark NA upgrades

I have an original Clark NA, bought it in 1998 or so, and have used it fairly regularly but was checking out the website and saw that it seems to have some added features, namely the solid nylon layer that zips over the bug netting. The original does not have this.
Is this a feature that in experience is a big upgrade or something many people don't use?

    Ben:
I have the NX-200 model CJH. It has the weather shield and I use it on almost every occasion that I hang this hammock. During the winter is helps to "trap" some extra heat in the hammock and when it is raining and the wind is really blowing it allow for some of the possible spray to be kept out of the hammock keeping me nice and dry. This was a greatly appreciated add-on/stock option (depending on model of CJH) last October when we had a typical Southern rain and I had a leaking new tarp. I was dry and slept through the night. I like the option and is worth every penny!!!!!

It's an option on my Tropical that I'm very glad that I got. It's come in handy on a few trips where I was camping right near the river and during the night, mist would come off the water causing the temps to feel cooler. Would have been fine except I'd also not packed my top quilt, the weathershield allowed me to sleep comfortably all night. Helps during the winter to hold heat in. Also it's nice if you want to nap during the day to help block out some light. Or to just zip it on one side to block light. I've been very pleased that I optied to have it.

Actually, the original Clarks did have this. I've been using them since the very first one's were released and the "weather-shield" was standard. It was optional on the ultralight version when it was released.

    Thumbs up on the weathershield!!!
Great for those nasty rain storms.
I haven't been in my Clark N.A. yet in the winter, but I have been dern gone learned and educated on this forum as to their great effectiveness in helping to keep out gigantious cold weather. ( Hmm, I wonder, is gigantious a real word??).

Yeah me too, it's sure looks roomy. I might have to consider selling my NA Camo to help fund one---I'm sure my wife (mommy) is okay with that. haha

I just randomly found it too, but, this was love at first sight- looks as though it would make a good conversion to a makeshift tent in the rare occasion of no trees, as well!

I've had my Clark on the ground
doable but not comfortable!!! It's like you're inside a very tinny pup-tent, and there's no place for your gear. But at least it's an option if you must go to ground.

If you do go to ground, remember that thing about site selection and rain run-off!! I tend to forget about that because I'm usually hanging above it.
