Hi all,
Its been awhile since ive made anythinh hammock related.
Dam covid level 4 lockdown has given me plenty of time but very little materials and no way to obtain them.
I did have this idea on my 7 month hang/gold mining trip to the south island though.
7 months under an OzTrail 2x3m tarp informed me of exactly what i want.
I bought an aluminium sectional tent pole from the Queenstown hospice shop for $4 in feb of this year.
When i returned to jafaland i purchased a length of ripstop nylon coated on the inside.
Its a bit heavier than normal tarp material but only $4 per meter.
It neasures 2.8 m wide at the centre, tapering down to 2.4 m wide at 1.46 m from the centre giving just short of 3m overall.
It then has an adfitional .4 m at the ridge height spreading to 1.5 m longer and 3 m wide to make storm doors.
All tiedown points are double gusseted.
Thevrevolutionary idea(at least here in New Zealand) is that the ali pole is 'captured' in a french seam so no extra dodads are needed to support the pole.
The tarp can be used in standard A format or the pole inserted and used as per the photo.
It can also be used as a tarp tent with nothing more than the pole and 2 pegs for each end,and excess tarp folded inside.
All i need now is a $h!tload of grosgrain when shops reopen and reinforce the entire outer edge in one continuious length.
I may also sew a couple of fabric loops inside for light knivknacks but i usually attatch them to a ridgeline.
